Stone is a popular flooring option because of its natural beauty and texture, but it is not appropriate for all settings. In rooms with heavy foot traffic, for example, stone can sometimes chip, and it will certainly remain cold and hard underfoot. How can you possibly blend the looks of stone with premium resilience and comfort? Check out Alterna engineered stone from Armstrong.
Armstrong Alterna, although it is not made from real stone, looks exactly like stone. There are multiple stone looks available, including marble and slate, and they look truly authentic in all settings. Alterna offers natural looks because, like luxury vinyl tile, it has a special decorative layer that includes a real stone image. This decorative layer is protected by a strong wear layer, so Alterna’s natural looks will never fade. Also, because of this strong wear layer, Alterna will resist scratches and scuffs without any special treatments.
Nonetheless, Alterna may look like real stone, but it functions quite differently. Given its engineered construction, Alterna is relatively flexible, so it is more comfortable and definitely more resilient than stone. Alterna tiles will never chip or break under any external pressures, and they are warm to the touch. Also, Alterna’s surface is extremely resistant when compared to stone’s surface. Like we mentioned before, Alterna will not scratch, and it also will resist moisture. In fact, Alterna is considered a waterproof flooring option, so it can be installed in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and other areas with moisture.
How does installation work? Alterna tiles can be glued to the subfloor with Armstrong's super-strong S-288 adhesive, and they can be installed using special grout for an authentic tile look. Also, Armstrong offers a Quiet Comfort Luxury Flooring underlayment that provides extra comfort and noise reduction.
